Our story

A light on the hill in St. Andrew.

For generations the Woodford church family has gathered in the hills above Kingston to worship God and care for one another.

Who we are

The Woodford SDA Church family exists by God’s grace to live lives in harmony with Christ our Lord.

The Adventist message reached Jamaica in the early 1890s, and the work spread quickly across the island’s eastern parishes. In the hills of St. Andrew, the Woodford congregation took root in Cottage District and has been a place of worship, learning and community ever since.

Today we are a family of more than 609 members, gathered from Woodford and the surrounding communities. We are part of the East Jamaica Conference, within the Jamaica Union Conference and the Inter-American Division of Seventh-day Adventists.

Our doors open every Sabbath morning for study and worship, and our members carry the ministry into the week — visiting the sick, teaching children, singing, and serving neighbours. We are ordinary people with an extraordinary hope.

What we believe

Ancient truths, held with joy.

We are Seventh-day Adventists: Christians who keep the seventh-day Sabbath and live in expectation of Christ's return.

The Bible

Scripture is our only rule of faith and practice — the living word of God, trusted from Genesis to Revelation.

The Sabbath

From Friday sunset to Saturday sunset we rest, worship and delight in the Creator who made us.

The Blessed Hope

We wait for the soon, literal return of Jesus Christ, and we live each day in the light of that promise.

Wholeness

God cares for the whole person. We encourage health of body, mind and spirit as an act of worship.

Stewardship

Everything we have is a gift. Tithes, offerings and service are our grateful response.

Family

Church is not an event but a household — where children are raised, the grieving are held, and no one walks alone.

Leadership

Pastor Adolphus Smith

District Pastor

Our pastor serves the churches of the Woodford district, supported by a team of elders, deacons and departmental leaders who carry the ministry of the congregation week by week. Together with the East Jamaica Conference, they shepherd, teach and encourage the family here.

Come and worship with us this Sabbath.
